NZAC Tūpiki Trust Exciting News Te Ara/The Path Released On Stuff
Sharing our passion for climbing is at the heart of the NZAC Tūpiki Trust, and a project which launches today will do exactly that, as it brings New Zealand mountaineering into the homes of thousands.
Te Ara, the Path, is a four-part documentary which starts playing on Stuff today, pairing one of New Zealand’s best climbers with one of the country’s newest mountaineers. The four, ten-minute videos tell the amazing story of Holly Beckham’s climb from years of drug addiction to the slopes of the maunga of Aotearoa, thanks to the teaching, support and guidance of Lydia Bradey, a New Zealand climbing icon.
Approached by Greenstone TV a year ago with the idea of the series, the NZAC Tūpiki Trust were delighted to be able to arrange a significant contribution to the project with the help of John Nankervis’ estate, ensuring the balance of the funding could be gained from New Zealand on Air, Bloom Pictures, and Stuff, and turning Holly and Lydia’s dream into reality.
Te Ara skilfully showcases the sport we are passionate about, highlights our stunning mountains, the New Zealand Alpine Club’s alpine huts and dramatically shows the opportunities mountaineering offers to explore these treasures. But at a deeper level, thanks to the outstanding contributions of both Holly and Lydia, Te Ara speaks about the opportunities mountaineering offers to explore within ourselves, and to use what we learn to achieve new heights.
Previous online Stuff docos have reached audiences in the tens of thousands, and Tūpiki Trust is confident that Te Ara will be just as successful thanks to the quality of the story, outstanding film making and Stuff’s marketing campaign. By this weekend, we expect thousands of climbers and potential climbers will joining Holly and Lydia on Te Ara.
In Episode One, which is streaming now on Stuff at www.stuff.co.nz/pou-tiaki/300922484/te-ara--the-path-i-never-thought-id-be-alive-to-do-this--climbing-tititea-mount-aspiring we meet Holly and Lydia and watch as Holly’s climbing training begins. You can join them on The Pathway by streaming the episode on your phone, tablet or smart TV at any time that suits you.
The NZAC Tūpiki Trust would love to hear your feedback on Te Ara,– and remember, applications are open for our September funding round.
