Inaugural Wellington Mature Mountaineers Meeting

The first Wellington Mature Mountaineers event was held on Thursday 9 March. The event was held during the afternoon at Tarurua Tramping Club hall and attracted 30 people who enjoyed the opportunity to hear prominent local mountaineer Dave Bamford speak. Tūpiki Trust hosted the event and Ross Cullen gave a brief overview about the Tūpki Trust, introduced Trust patron Margaret Fyfe, before introducing Dave Bamford who gave a personal presentation ... “Tales from a maturing mountaineer.’ Well known author and fellow Wellingtonian Shaun Barnett posed some questions for Dave focusing on the mentoring received when he commenced climbing, his role on Te Urewera board, his ability to cram so much activity amongst family and work commitments.

The audience empathised with the tales Dave told, revelled in the opportunity to catchup with friends and climbing partners, were enthusiastic about further Mature Mountaineers events during afternoons at the TTC hall.

We will host them every 3 months with the next one on Thursday 8 June and again on Thursday 7 September, both beginning at 1.30 pm.  Doors will open at 1 pm.
